• 28 April 2000: The majority (44) of the Royal Navy's Lynx helicopters have been grounded after GKN Westlands concluded they need new rotor heads. An investigation into a recent Dutch Navy crash suggested the work be carried out, leaving only 15 Lynx's available between the Navy's 20 frigates and destroyers. The replacements are expected to take up to two years to complete. Some Army Lynxs may also need work, although their construction is different.
• April, 2000: All 19 on board a Marine MV-22 Osprey were killed when it crashed near Tucson, Arizona, USA on Sunday 9th.
• Thursday 14th October 1999: A Tornado GR1 from RAF Lossiemouth crashed in Northumberland whilst on a routine training exercise, killing both crew members. Witness resports suggest the jet may have been trying to avoid a light aircraft just before the incident.
• November 1999: Orders have been places with a number of UK shipyards for 2 new aircraft carriers and 12 Type 45 destroyers for the Royal Navy.
