There are five colours and two metals used in traditional heraldry. Natural colours are also used (e.g. a flesh colour for a face). The colours are Gules = Red; Azure = Blue; Vert = Green; Purpure = Purple; Sable = Black. The two metals are (i.e. silver and gold) Argent = White and Or = Yellow. It is bad heraldry to put a colour on a colour, or a metal on a metal.
