The modern Gregorian
calendar was only adopted in Britain in 1752.
This standardized both the start of the year to 1st January and the
'leap year rules': If the year is divisible by four it is a leap year.
If the
century year is divisible by 400 it is a leap year. A leap year is a year
where February has 29 days instead of the normal 28 days.
